One of the most important things you can do for your car (British or not, new or not) is to keep your tire pressures up to specification.  You will have better steering, traction, tire life and fuel economy.

Newer cars have the advantage of Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) which communicate the pressure level from a sensor in each wheel to the car’s computer. The Display on the cR’s dashboard will indicate actual pressure readings for each wheel, but slightly older cars may only have an ‘idiot light’.

If your vehicle does not have an onboard air pump, there are a number of electric air pumps on the market.  Most Auto Parts stores will carry at least one.  Air Pumps are also increasingly available at Tool Stores, including Harbor Freight, Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, etc.  There are a plethora of models available via online shops such as Amazon, eBay, etc.

My personal favorite has been an 18v lithium battery-powered model from RYOBI.  It uses the same battery as my cordless hand tools, leaf blower, string trimmer, etc.  It is compact (smaller than a box of tissues). It is automated: set the desired pressure, press start, and the unit shuts off when complete.  It cost less than $30 new.

Keep those tire pressures up.  While you’re down there, check your tire condition: sidewall cracks, uneven wear across the tire width, and road damage (nails, screws, etc).  There may be a very good reason your tire pressure is low.  Be Safe!

Total agreement here! My RYOBI tire inflator goes with me in whichever car I drive. Also handy when the built in sensors start chiming when the temp outside starts to drop.
